Burnet Woods DGC project is a dream come true
In 1998 this fun short nine hole course was only one of about 12 courses in our area. Residing in one of our City Park systems oldest Parks between Clifton rd and MLK, adjacent to the University of Cincinnati Campus. Since it's beginning we have pleaded with Cincinnati Parks to someday help us upgrade the course to a full 18 hole layout with concrete tees, quality tee signs and new baskets. Today that long awaited dream has come true, just recently the course was updated with 18 new concrete tee pads. New baskets have been ordered but due to usual supply issues during this pandemic, those may not arrive for another 10 or more weeks. Several years ago Adam Jones, who has been vigilante with pushing this project forward, had the opportunity to work hand in hand with the Parks department with Tree planting projects on site. They worked together on proper placement and species choices to help create the fairways and greens on the expanded section of the new layout.
Baskets have now arrived and our next phase is working with the Parks maintenance crews to install the ground sleeves. Once that is completed we will then be able to place the new baskets out on the course. We chose the DGA Mach 7's based on durability, cost and visibility. We all know their brand is rated the highest for quality. Parks are helping with the materials required for installing the baskets, equipment, bags of concrete and meter boxes to protect the sleeves. We used our Nati Course Fund money to cover the cost of new locks which we received some help from a friend, Ian O'Hara, that works for a locksmith. He was able to help us with locks at cost for Burnet and new locks for Dunham.
By Spring the course should be completed and all the updates installed. Tee signs will be the last component once everything else is in place. We will put up temporary signage until the final versions are ready. Parks will help provide the signs while our own artist, Jake Ryan Witte, has taken on the task of creating the tee sign images for this project. He won a popular vote contest and we are all very grateful for his contributions. There is still a decent amount of course prep work to handle, mostly preparing a few areas for baskets tucked into areas that have been overgrown with invasive's. Course Work Days will be posted to help organize our volunteers and help our Parks create a great quality course for all to enjoy. Only detail we are still uncertain of is the possible opportunity for having a Tee Sign Sponsor Program but we will let you all know once that is figured out.
